TNT’s “Men of a Certain Age” is sure to impress.
The journey of men in the second half of their lives opens up comedic and dramatic pathways that are a most welcome exploration. Making its debut on December 7th, TNT’s drama “Men of a Certain Age” looks to appeal to male viewers who may find kindred spirits with these memorably created characters.
There are three men. There’s Joe (Ray Romano), a somewhat neurotic father of two teens runs Joe’s Party Depot. He gets along better with his partner now that they're separated but still tries to reconnect.
Then we have Terry (Scott Bakula), a has-been actor seemingly at ease with his casual whatever happens work attitude who brushes off small-time work, deciding to draw the line between good work and waste of time.
Lastly, and the most heartfelt of the three, is Owen (Andre Braugher), a tired and stressed husband praying for the home remodeling to get completed as well as trying to stay on par in the car sales business that his father owns. The tough part is the bitter emotion conveyed by his father who praises the young blood Marcus (Brian J. White), lifting him up to take over shop and slamming his own son, saying “you are an embarrassment.”
Joe also has gambling issues and struggles to communicate with the kids and Terry’s stuck in a dry actor’s limbo, contemplating whether single life is the right way to go.
What the main goal behind this is friendship and the solid shoulder of a friend when it’s so needed.
TNT has a winner with “Men” and one I’d love to follow more…work permitting.
