Paramount Pictures' horror "Paranormal Activity" expanded its reach into 1,945 venues thanks to fan demands and easily topped the box office with an estimated $22 million earned. Low-budget pic by Oren Peli averaged $11,311 per theatre and has now accumulated over $62.4 million.
Debuting in second place, "Saw VI" from Lionsgate pulled in $14.8 million from 3,36 locations and will most likely turn out to be the lowest grossing of the entire franchise for Twisted Pictures thus far.
In it's sophomore weekend, family adventure "Where the Wild Things Are" from Warner Bros. showed a 56% change with $14.4 million posted. Total cume for the adaptation of the Maurice Sendak book is just under $54 million.
Fourth placed crime thriller "Law Abiding Citizen" made $12.7 million in its second weekend, bringing the total for the Overture Films release starring Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx to over $40 million.
Ending the top five positions was Universal Pictures' "Couples Retreat" comedy which managed $11 million in its third week at play. Total cume for the Vince Vaughn frontlined comedy is over $62 million.
The top film at the same time last year was "High School Musical 3: Senior year" with a big $42 million for distributor Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
