Rhona Mitra oozes sex appeal, grace and strength. Traits perfect for the character of Sonja in Patrick Tatopoulos's "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans."
The actress was last seen in the decent "Doomsday" sci-fi actioner and now stars as Sonja, daughter to Viktor (Bill Nighy), the powerful and brutal leader of the Death Dealers.
So what's this film all about?
The third film in the $200 million UNDERWORLD franchise delves into the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires, known as the Death Dealers, and the barbaric Lycans (werewolves). A young Lycan named Lucian (Michael Sheen), emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has persecuted them for hundreds of years.
Lucian is joined by his secret lover, the beautiful vampire Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle to free the Lycans from their brutal enslavement.
Question:
Was it fun playing a vampire?
Rhona Mitra
"Probably the most fun role I've had to date. That and my character on Nip/Tuck actually. It's a world that kind of allows you to do and be pretty much all the things that you want to be, well, that I'd like to be anyway. I got to sword-fight, ride horses, make whoopie with a werewolf, which wasn't on my list of things to do but I highly recommend it!"

Question:
Favorite scene in the movie?
Rhona Mitra
"My favorite action scene, which is with myself and Bill Nighy where we have a stand-off which is a sword-fight and it's in the rain and it's incredibly powerful because it's really sad and it's about what he feels is my treason and treachery and therefore his broken heart and then my feeling of h, ow I've upset my father. There's an incredibly powerful relationshop between us. It gets played out in this wonderful swordfight in the rain. I'm really looking forward to seeing it actually because it was incredibly brutal to shoot."
Question:
Did you have to learn any new skills and training for this one?
Rhona Mitra
"Only with the hindrance of the costume and the eyes and the fangs. I was retought a lot of the ways of moving and also being on horseback while doing a lot of these things with this heavy armor. There's heavy armor and corsets and chain mail and stuff like that. So it was really all about reworking it with all of those...hindrances I suppose." Question:
How did Lucian and Sonja meet? Rhona Mitra
"They met when they were children, when they were little kids. He was a Lycan, he was a half-breed and I'm obviously the daughter of Viktor and it struck up probably when they were eight-years-old or something like that and it continued on for sometime. They had to really play out the love story behind closed doors and in secrecy for all obvious reasons." Roundtable Interview Attended By: Peter Dimako, Editor in Chief.
